Oaklands Wolves have been boosted by the news that their Elite Academy League and senior Division Three head coach Liam Jefferson has been appointed as Great Britain U-16 boys coach for the 2025 season.
Jefferson was an assistant coach to the GB under-20 men’s side in 2023, and has more than a decade of coaching experience, starting as an assistant coach at the Loughborough Riders before moving to the London Lions youth academy and joining Wolves in the summer.
The Wolves play-caller is delighted to be becoming a head coach for Britain: “It’s a real honour to be appointed as head coach for the under-16 men’s programme and one that I don’t take lightly".
"The work of the federation over the last couple of years make it an extremely exciting time to be involved and I hope to play a small part in continuing the momentum. We have a really intriguing group of players within this age group and I can’t wait to work with them, starting with the combine in January.”
Wolves' Head of Basketball Michael Ball is proud of Jefferson's achievement: "The appointment of Liam as GB under-16 head coach is something we all feel proud of at Oaklands Wolves" he said. "In his first year at Oaklands his arrival has made an immediate impact with his attention to detail across all activities, his desire to deliver continuous improvement but also his selfless attitude on and off the court.
"We realised that before Liam arrived we were getting a coach whose philosophy and modern approach to the game would fit right in but these first few months have only reinforced to me that he is ready to make a significant difference to GB’s International standing.":
Jefferson's work begins in January with a series of trials, with the main GB camps happening in July before the European U-16 Boy's Championship B Division over 11 days in mid-August. The host city for the tournament has yet to be announced but the new GB coch will lookng for a top three finish to take his team into the top flight for 2026.
