The NBA – No Boys Allowed – returned to Oaklands College on Sunday as the Glencar Construction under-13 Girls League staged its second series of games this season. Southend Scorpions certainly enjoyed their first visit of the season as they won both games by double digit margins to go home as Round Two winners.
Wolves and Scorpions were the first two teams in action and the long trip from the Essex coast obviously didn’t affect the visitors as they rushed into a 22-2 lead at the first break.
George Walker’s team managed to limit the damage after that without ever looking likely to mount a comeback, and Southend ran out 53-23 winners. Rachel Critchlow led Wolves with eight points with Lois Levenston adding four in her “lucky” borrowed boots. Scorpions then faced Cambridge Cats and after a slow start took control to win 75-36. The battle for second place saw Wolves come out on top against Cats as they built on a 12-6 first period lead to run out 40-22 winners. The hosts led 20-12 at half-time and extended that to 32-18 at the final break before winning a low scoring fourth quarter 8-4. Critchlow and Olivia Akers led the home side with 10 points apiece with Daisy Golan, Levenston and Isobel Reed each adding four.
